How SVSS Communicates

As a club, we have four means of communication with our fellow club members. They are; the phone, two email contact list servers, and a user group.

Phone

A printed club roster is included in the monthly newsletter, a couple of times each year. Typically the information is limited to name, city, phone and email. By request, anyone can "opt out" of this printed list. It is recommended that members keep the printed roster for future reference. Also by request, an Excel version is available for retention in your computer’s address book. A request for an Excel file should be sent to Dudley Dufort via email.

Email

The club has two email contact list servers. They are: svss1@yahoo.com and svss@doneen.com.

The SVSS1 (Yahoo) list (svss1@yahoogroups.com) is available to SVSS members and non-members alike. There are approximately 200 subscribers to the Yahoo list. Roughly half are SVSS members and the other half are past members or those who just want to stay in touch with the club’s activities. This is the preferred list to use for general communication i.e. items for sale, who’s going flying today, or any soaring or club related matter. It is unmoderated, which means your message is immediately forwarded to all subscribers on the list. Feel free to use this list to your heart’s content. At the bottom of the home page on the club web site, you’ll find a quick link that you can use to subscribe to the Yahoo list.

The "Doneen" server (svss@doneen.com) was created for exclusive use by club officers for "official club business". With the exception of club officers, all other messages are moderated. That means the message is held and reviewed for appropriate content by a moderator prior to being released. Only active SVSS members are included on the subscriber list. The subscriber list is maintained by the moderators. Any member may post to this list but again every message requires approval from a moderator before it is released. Use your discretion. Also keep in mind that any reply to your message that is routed through the Doneen server will also require moderator approval. As a rule, the Yahoo list is the more appropriate list for most messages.

Using either of these list servers is as simple as sending a message to your aunt Tilly. First, make sure that you have the address in your email address book. In your email application create a new contact in your email address book using one of the above addresses (preferably the Yahoo address). Apply a name to the contact; for instance "SVSS List". Now you can enter the new email contact in the "To" section of a new email the same as you would for any other contact.

RC Groups

RC Groups is an on-line forum serving a broad spectrum of the radio control hobby. SVSS has its own forum on RC Groups. Here you can initiate or participate in a variety of discussions regarding our club.

The web address is; www.rcgroups.com/sacramento-valley-soaring-society-715/. You may want to copy and save (bookmark) this web address and check it from time to time for new activity.
